Baldor announced a new series of brushless, adjustable-speed controls and motors, that results in less maintenance, quieter operation and more efficient and higher torques in smaller packages.

Engineers and designers may wish to upgrade to this brushless technology for: conveyors, mixers, door openers, material handling, packaging and many other general purpose industrial applications that utilize adjustable speed.

The new control is the BMC-series with models available from 1/4 hp to 3 hp. The BMC-series is simple to use without programming – adjustments are factory set and these will work for the majority of applications – just install and run. For those who wish to customize for their machine, this is easy via the user trim-pots and jumpers – max rpm, acceleration, input signal scaling, etc. The control will accept either 115, 208, or 230 V AC input voltage. The BMC includes protection features such as: RMS current, short circuit, electronic inrush, under-voltage and over-voltage, motor overload, MOV transient, and comes protected in a finger safe IP20 package.

The new motors are the BSM25 and BSM33 brushless DC motors; they are available with NEMA mounting from 1/4 hp to 3 hp at 1,800 rpm. These motors are tolerant of harsh environments, and they may be operated at higher speed if the application needs the performance. Baldor’s brushless motors have permanent magnets on the rotor and windings on the stator. With windings on the stator, the motor can handle higher continuous loads without exceeding design temperatures. There are no brushes, nor sliding contacts, thus these motors have longer life and operate quieter, besides requiring less maintenance. With high-density magnets on the rotor, they get up to speed faster and provide smaller efficient packages.
